Clapton is the combined name of a couple of areas in east London which are right next to each other neither of which is a separate administrative unit. Lower Clapton and Upper Clapton are the areas under the common name Clapton.
Lower Clapton is a multicultural and socially diverse area that has beautiful open areas. It is centred on Lower Clapton Road and near Clapton Pond where remnants of village green can be seen. This and the late Georgian Clapton Square are Lower Clapton’s conservation zones.
Upper Clapton also has a number of open spaces and conservation areas. One of the biggest ones I Springfield Park which was built on the ground of three mansions. The main house – Springfield house is a grade II listed building which has been transformed into a café. There are also tennis courts and other sports areas, waterway crafting on the River Lea, and many more things to do for entertainment and leisure. One of the area’s well-known landmarks is the Church of the Good Shepherd which is now a grade II listed building in a Gothic Revival style.
